England vs Switzerland Prediction (06.07.2024)

We’ve arrived at the quarter-final stage of UEFA Euro 2024, and things are really starting to heat up. There are eight nations left in the hunt to become champions of Europe, and all of them have a valid reason to believe that they can go all the way. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what promises to be an electric encounter as England square off against Switzerland.

The Three Lions have somehow made it through to the quarter-finals of the Euros. Gareth Southgate’s stubbornness in his tactical decisions have left many questioning whether or not he really has a long term future with the national team. Alas, regardless of which way you choose to look at it, they need to improve quickly if they’re serious about lifting the trophy in Berlin.

Until the 95th minute against Slovakia, England were heading out - until Jude Bellingham came up with a miracle. His bicycle kick set Gareth’s men on their way to victory, with Harry Kane’s goal early in extra time ensuring they got over the finish line after yet another dismal performance.

Switzerland have always been a solid team to watch but across the last five years, they seem to be putting the pieces together as a nation who can make a real dark horse run. Following on from their exploits at Euro 2021, the popular opinion is that this is their best ever chance to win a trophy - which is a thought that may not have entered the minds of many heading into the tournament.

The Swiss were feeling confident about their chances against Italy heading into their round of 16 game and, as it turns out, they were right for feeling that way. They pretty much played them off of the park, easing their way to what proved to be a really comfortable 2-0 triumph over the former champions.

This one is really hard to call, which is perhaps saying a lot about how England have underperformed and Switzerland have overperformed. Alas, we just don’t see a scenario in which this game is decided within 90 minutes, which is why we’re going to predict a draw.
