There’s no denying that Gareth Southgate has done an exceptional job when it comes to restoring the belief of the English people on the international stage. What he has yet to do, however, is bring home a trophy. They have reached a semi-final, a quarter-final and a final, and many will believe 2024 can be the year that sees them finally bring football home for the first time since 1966.

England began their World Cup run in emphatic fashion with a 6-2 demolition of Iran. Following a 0-0 draw with the United States, they were able to beat Wales 3-0 to set up another 3-0 win over Senegal in the round of 16. Unfortunately, their dream came to an end at the hands of France in the quarters.

Toney joins the squad as the only uncapped player, with many believing he’ll play some kind of role. Elsewhere, Rashford, Pope and Mount have all been forced out through injuries.

Match Prediction

With this being on Italy’s home turf, you’d think they would be in with a pretty solid shout of kickstarting their campaign with three points. Alas, we just don’t think that’ll be the case, and that this will instead be a really tight, entertaining and competitive encounter that ends in a draw.
