Cardiff - Coventry Tip 19-09-2023

Six games take place in the Championship on Tuesday night and they all look to be very close games. This one is no exception, as Cardiff, big winners on Saturday night in the Welsh Derby, take on Coventry, a side slightly below par so far this season, and thanks to that, this one is very tight to call.

A big win over their bitter Welsh rivals Swansea will have certainly put some confidence into this Cardiff side, and it'll be interesting to see how they use that going forward. They've won twice so far from six games, with a draw and three defeats from their start to the season. It's been ok, but it's clear they're a bottom of the table team.

The positive of those wins is that they've both come in the last three games, with a success over Swansea 2-0 and before that, a 2-1 victory over struggling Sheffield Wednesday. They've only beaten strugglers so far, and will need a lot more to get anything from this game against a better side.

Losers in the playoff final last season, I think Coventry are suffering a hangover from that. I think they'll get better in time, but have suffered a tough defeat and lost their two best players recently, so there is good reason for them to not be at their best right now, something I'm hoping changes soon.

They arrive here on the back of four draws in a row, and would love to start turning them into wins. They're maintaining their position, but not improving it. The most recent draw was a 1-1 away game against Hull, they've also drawn with Watford, Sunderland and Swansea, so have played some good sides.

A big game for both in terms of momentum building, and I am going with a Coventry win. They've had a tough summer, but I think an improvement is on the horizon, and I am backing them to win this game. Cardiff have a couple of recent wins, but against lower sides, this is a game Coventry can show their class in.
