The Major League Soccer season is beginning to get into a real rhythm as all clubs involved find their feet and start to build some momentum. There are plenty of reasons to believe this could be the best MLS campaign yet, with teams across North America getting better and better. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fascinating encounter between FC Cincinnati and Colorado Rapids.
Cincinnati Form GuideCincinnati made quite the splash last season as they won the Supporters’ Shield, which is handed out to the club with the best regular season record. They did so by accumulating 69 points but in the playoffs, they couldn’t make it all the way. They did get through NY Red Bulls and Philadelphia, only to fall short to Columbus in the conference finals.
Cincy picked up nice wins over New England and New York before being held to a 1-1 draw on the road by Charlotte. Following that, they were beaten by NY Red Bulls and Montreal, but they did rebound nicely as they managed to overcome Atlanta in their own backyard.
Colorado Form GuideLast season, the wooden spoon in the West went to Colorado. The Rapids only managed to win five games all season long and while they do have a few highlight reel players to brag about, that doesn’t mean much when you have no consistency or general ideology to speak of. They have a lot of work to do, but it definitely feels like they’re taking steps in the right direction.
Colorado lost 1-0 to Houston on March 24 but ever since then, they’ve been on a nice four-game unbeaten run. They drew 2-2 with Miami and in addition to that, they were able to secure victories over Los Angeles, San Jose and Dallas.
Match PredictionBoth of these sides will believe that the playoffs are in their future but of course, there’s a lot of work that needs to be done before they get there. In terms of this game, we expect it to be a pretty even affair, which is why our official prediction is going to be a draw.
