The Major League Soccer season is motoring through to the summer break, and there’s a lot of excitement in the air about where things are heading. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be an intriguing showdown between Chicago Fire and Toronto FC.
Chicago Form GuideThey’re known for being a city that has given birth to some of the great champions of our time in the form of the Bulls, Bears and Blackhawks, but it’s been a while since the Fire have been able to bring pride back to Chicago. They have some good building blocks in place but there’s still a long way to go before they can be seen as genuine contenders, and that’s us putting it very lightly.
Chicago didn’t exactly start the month in style, falling to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Orlando. Since then, though, they’ve done a pretty solid job of redeeming themselves, putting together consecutive wins over Nashville and Montreal.
Toronto Form GuideBack in 2017, Toronto FC won the domestic treble by capturing the MLS Cup, Supporters’ Shield and Canadian Championship. They’re the only side to do so and also have a few runners-up medals to their name, but this season, they’re been poor. They have just three league wins to their name and given the quality of their squad, that’s not nearly good enough, especially given fan expectations.
After a draw with Nashville last month, Toronto have completely fallen off the side of a cliff. They’ve lost five straight in the MLS against Cincinnati, New England, Salt Lake, Orlando and, most recently, St Louis.
Match PredictionToronto are the kind of team that you can never count out, and that much goes without saying - but the form book speaks for itself. They’re away from home, don’t have all of their options available, and they just aren’t a great unit. We’re going to predict a Chicago win, and we don’t expect to be too far off.
