Major League Soccer is back in our lives for yet another season of action across North America. We’re in the early stages of the new campaign but there’s already so much to get excited about from West to East, as the majority of teams gear up for a hopeful run to the MLS Cup. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what promises to be an intriguing clash between Chicago Fire and CF Montreal.
Chicago Form GuideFor years now, the city of Chicago has done a great job of producing winners - but in the MLS, it’s been a long time since the Fire have seen any kind of sustained success. Last season, they finish in 13th place in the Eastern Conference. While they did pick up 10 wins along the way, they need a bit more of an edge to them if they’re going to start thinking about the playoffs.
Chicago took on Columbus away from home last Sunday and, for the most part, we’d argue they did a really good job of pushing their opponents to the limit. Sure, they only came away with a 2-1 defeat, but it still serves as progress in our eyes.
Montreal Form GuideThe city of Montreal flies under the radar when it comes to picking out passionate fanbases. The teams they have behind them are ones built on the shoulders of giants, and the same goes for CF Montreal. They aren’t the biggest and they aren’t the baddest but we do think they’ve got potential to grow, especially in a conference that looks set to be wide open once again.
Last weekend, Montreal had their big moment in the sun. They went on the road to take on Inter Miami and despite many believing they’d get turned over, they instead came away with an unbelievably valuable 3-2 victory.
Match PredictionWe’re looking at two teams who are putting the pieces in place to go on a really nice run over the course of the next few months - but in terms of overall quality, we feel as if they’re quite evenly matched. Therefore, our instinctive prediction is going to be a draw.
