Mid table Charlton take on 23rd place Cheltenham this Tuesday, though when you look at recent form, it is the lower side that have been going much the better. Cheltenham are five points from safety, Charlton seven points from the playoffs, three points would be very much welcome by both.
Charlton Form GuideI fancied Charlton to go for promotion this season, but so far they've not really put that run together, and have really disappointed me. Heading into Tuesday night, they are in 10th position, have six wins from 17 games, and need to pick up if they want to get involved in the playoff race, never mind be genuine promotion challengers.
They come here on a run that has seen them go unbeaten in their last three league games. But while they won the first of those, the most recent two have both been draws, and even at this stage of the season, I am not sure if draws are good enough for them. At the weekend, they drew 1-1 away at Carlisle, a side near the relegation zone.
Cheltenham Form GuideCheltenham had a dreadful start to the season, not only were they not winning, but they were also not scoring, and Wade Elliott was sacked as manager because of that. The ship is now far more steady, and it is fair to say that of the teams near the bottom of the table, Cheltenham have the best recent form.
Still in 23rd, they haver won three, drawn one and lost one of their last five games, a great run of 10 points from five, where as they only took two points from their first 12 games. They beat one of the league leaders on Saturday too, winning 2-0 at home to Oxford, who went into that game in second place in the league.
Match PredictionDespite that run from Cheltenham, I am going to keep the faith and stick with Charlton here. I think they're better than we've seen so far, I think there is more to come, and signs are there. This is a game they can win on home soil, so it's Charlton to take the three points on Tuesday for me.
