Rotherham vs Cardiff Prediction (04.05.2024)

Rotherham United have been officially relegated from the Championship for the past few weeks, but for the past few months, they've been heading that way. Steve Evans has returned to the club, and he will be in charge next season, looking to get the team back on track after what has been a really disappointing campaign. On the final day of the season, they welcome Cardiff City to the New York Stadium.

The Millers have a chance to go out on a high here, and there is something to play for, as players will want to impress new arrival Evans, ahead of him looking at the squad for next season. Despite being the end of a season, it does feel a little like a new start here, with Evans coming in, and he's the type of manager that would be able to make an impact quickly.

Rotherham have played twice under Evans, with a draw in the first, and then a defeat last weekend. They drew 0-0 at home to Birmingham, and last weekend, their loss was a 2-0 away defeat to Bristol City, a side who are playing really well at the moment. Evans will no doubt have his team fired up to end on a high, for the supporters if nothing else.

Overall, it has been a really good season for Cardiff, and they'll be thrilled with their final position. Currently 12th, it can get no worse, and they're guaranteed to finish above rivals Swansea. But it could get as good as 9th, depending on other results, if Cardiff can take something here.

Cardiff were beaten heavily last week though, they lost 4-1 at home to Middlesbrough, before that, a much better performance and a 2-1 home win over Southampton. In their last six, they've been inconsistent, winning, then losing, which has kept their position in the table but stopped them from moving forward.

I am going to side with Rotherham here. It's been a terrible season, but there is hope for next year, as Steve Evans is back. I am siding with him to get the players to win on the final day.
