Paris Saint Germain - Borussia Dortmund Tip 19-09-2023

The UEFA Champions League is back in our lives this week as we get ready for the group stage of the competition. Thirty-two of the biggest and best clubs from across Europe will come together in an attempt to make their push for a place in next year’s final in London. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun encounter between Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund.

Everyone knows that Paris Saint-Germain are the alphas of the beautiful game in France but in recent months, it’s seemed as if the wheels are starting to fall off ever so slightly. Between the Kylian Mbappe drama and Lionel Messi & Neymar leaving, you have to wonder what kind of effort they’re going to put forward both in the league and in the Champions League this season.

PSG, simply put, didn’t look great in their opening two games - at least, not in front of goal. They were held by Lorient and Toulouse before unleashing in dominant wins over Lens and Lyon, only to fall short once again in a 3-2 defeat at home courtesy of Nice.

Borussia Dortmund came close to tasting glory in the German Bundesliga last season before ultimately falling short at the final hurdle. That has to do something to your confidence as a team, and we’d be surprised if it didn’t. Still, with an incredible fanbase behind them alongside a crop of really talented youngsters, they should be coming into this year’s UCL with no fear.

After battering TSV SCHOTT Mainz 6-1 in the cup, Dortmund got back to business with a win over Cologne in the league. They did drop points in draws with Bochum and Heidenheim, before making up for those shortcomings with a confident 4-2 triumph over Freiburg.

Goals, goals, goals (how do you like it?). PSG and Dortmund have entertainment value coming out of their ears and that much is obvious. We think, or at least we’d like to think, that’ll manifest into a really fun clash of styles, with the final result being over 2.5 goals scored between them.
