Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund will collide for just the second time ever this week as they battle for a place in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
Chelsea Form GuideIt’s safe to say that this season, up to this point, has been a failure for Chelsea Football Club. Despite spending millions upon millions in the name of improving their squad and league position, the Blues have failed to make any real progress. For manager Graham Potter, you’d have to imagine he’s one or two bad results away from being shown the door for good.
After being held to a draw by Fulham and West Ham, the Blues proceeded to lose 1-0 to Borussia Dortmund, 1-0 to Southampton and 1-0 to Tottenham. Thankfully for them, they showed small signs of life by just about beating Leeds 1-0 at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
Borussia Dortmund Form GuideAfter a slow start, Borussia Dortmund have exploded into life ever since the winter break. They’ve been winning game after game at a rapid pace, to the point whereby it feels like they may be the default favourites to capture the Bundesliga title. Of course, Bayern Munich still occupy that position, but you can bet Dortmund are going to run them awfully close.
As we alluded to previously, Dortmund just cannot bring themselves to stop winning games of football. Since February 8th, they’ve been able to defeat the following teams: Bochum, Werder Bremen, Chelsea, Hertha Berlin, Hoffenheim and even RB Leipzig.
Latest Team NewsMount is suspended here with James and Pulisic being fitness doubts, whereas the following players are injured: Broja, Silva, Kante, Azpilicueta and Mendy.
Ryerson’s suspension means he will miss out alongside the injured Duranville, Malen, Adeyemi, Morey, Kamara and Moukoko.
Match PredictionIf the first leg taught us anything, it’s that these two sides tend to cancel each other out pretty efficiently. Chelsea are going to do a good job of pushing the tempo and getting in the face of the Germans, but ultimately, we’re going to end up with under 2.5 goals scored in the capital.
