The quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League are upon us as the remaining eight clubs attempt to make a push for the latter stages of the competition. While there are certainly a few favourites that stand out, every single team left in the running will fancy their chances. Today, we’ll be taking a look at this week’s first leg clash between Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid.

Borussia Dortmund haven’t exactly had a great season, and that’s us putting it lightly. The next step for them is ensuring they have as strong of a push as they possibly can between now and May, including in the Champions League. They have issues to overcome in this tie but with a passionate home crowd behind them, anything is possible.

For whatever reason, Dortmund just couldn’t get the luck they needed in their first leg meeting with Atletico. The Spaniards raced out to an important 2-0 lead and while Haller did pull one back for the boys in yellow, the final result was 2-1 after a scintillating clash.

They are so often seen as the younger brother to Barcelona and Real Madrid but on more than one occasion across the last decade, Atletico Madrid have made Spain - and Europe - their own. They still have a strong squad and an inner belief that they can spring a few upsets, which is why it’s always hard to count them out in the Champions League.
