Chelsea vs Blackburn Prediction (01.11.2023)

We are at the fourth round stage of the EFL Cup, with six of the eight games being played on Wednesday night. Premier League side Chelsea are in action, and they play at home against Championship side Blackburn Rovers. A place in the quarter finals of this competition awaits the winner of the game.

We've seen the best and worst of Chelsea this season, very much a work in progress project, there's sure to be more bumps in the road. But they come here in a better position than most big sides, as they don't have European football to think about, so they can throw their all at this, and in my opinion, they should.

10 games in, we've seen three wins, four losses and three draws for Chelsea. They come here on the back of a 2-0 home loss against Brentford, one of their worst performances of the season. They'll want to bounce back from it, and shouldn't make too many changes here, which could be an important advantage over their opponents.

It's probably been as good as expected from Blackburn so far, they've got six wins from 14 games, along with a draw and seven defeats. That's left them around mid table and although it's worse than last season, they've seen some big departures over the summer, including Ben Brereton Diaz, so life was always going to be tough.

They come here on the back of a 1-0 home loss against Swansea at the weekend, which was disappointing. Especially because it was on the back of winning three games in a row before that, and it's going to be interesting to see them come here and set up, especially with the team they play and how much they throw at this game.

I think Chelsea will not only win this, but will win it comfortably. They've got no European football, so can throw everything at this game, I think they will, and that is enough to give them plenty of quality on the field. I'm backing Chelsea -1.5 on the Asian handicap line, which means to win by two goals or more.
