Major League Soccer is back in our lives for yet another season of action across North America. We’re in the early stages of the new campaign but there’s already so much to get excited about from West to East, as the majority of teams gear up for a hopeful run to the MLS Cup. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what promises to be an intriguing clash between Toronto FC and Atlanta United.
Toronto Form GuideToronto were officially the worst team in the MLS last season with just 22 points from 34 games, featuring just four victories in that time. When you consider what they’ve been able to accomplish across the last decade as a whole, you really do have to wonder what went wrong. In addition, it’s hard not to be curious about what the next few months will look like for them.
Toronto started off their campaign with a solid 0-0 draw on the road to Cincinnati and following that, they managed to pull off two straight wins against New England and Charlotte. They did, however, hit their first stumbling block in a 2-1 defeat away to New York.
Atlanta Form GuideAtlanta United were once seen as the most exciting new team in the league but these days, they can’t quite put everything together in a way that guides them to a late playoff run. They did finish 6th in the Eastern Conference which was a pleasant surprise for many, but in the post-season, they were beaten in their best of three by eventual champions Columbus.
Atlanta have only played three times so far this season and they started off with a poor 1-0 loss against Columbus on the road. From there, they were able to rattle off two straight wins, picking up decisive victories over New England and Orlando.
Match PredictionToronto and Atlanta are both showing signs of real life in the early stages of the season and when it comes to this game specifically, we feel as if the smart money is on them being a bit more conservative. With regards to an official prediction, we’re going to shoot for a draw.
