New York Red Bulls and Atlanta United will collide this weekend as an electric Major League Soccer season reaches the summer.
NY Red Bulls Form GuideNew York Red Bulls serve as a franchise that many football fans have heard of across the globe. It’s a shame, then, that they can’t quite seem to put it all together on the pitch. They’re still a fun team to watch from time to time and the Supporters’ Shield hasn’t eluded them, but in order to reach that next level, it feels like they still need to acquire a few (big) missing ingredients.
Inconsistency has been the name of the game for New York over the course of the last month or so. They beat Montreal, then lost to Seattle. They beat Inter Miami, then proceeded to lose 3-0 to Orlando before being held to a 2-2 draw by Charlotte.
Atlanta Form GuideAtlanta United, once upon a time, were a real force of nature upon initially entering the MLS. Unfortunately, they seem to have lost a bit of their spark in recent times. They’re still one of the most consistent acts in the East and they’re probably going to make it to the post-season, but we’re left to wonder what it is they can achieve in terms of making a deep run with this current squad.
ATL, at this moment in time, can be described as draw specialists - which we think is a fair assessment. They’ve drawn five of their last six with Chicago, Orlando, New England, Los Angeles and New York City, to run alongside a 3-1 win over DC United.
Match PredictionBoth of these teams are able to really go for the jugular when necessary but in doing so, they leave themselves vulnerable at the back. It’s the kind of imbalance that we’ve seen many times in the MLS over the years, but one thing it should bring is entertainment. With that in mind, we’re going to be backing a lively draw.
