The Premier League returns once again this weekend as we continue to march through the first month of the new campaign. There’s still a whole lot we have to learn about all 20 teams involved in this season’s top flight, and on Sunday, we’ll find out more about Liverpool and Aston Villa as they clash at Anfield.
Liverpool Form GuideLiverpool did not break into the top four last season which, by their standards, can only be looked at as a pretty big failure. The Reds still have a solid squad but Jurgen Klopp knows that this is an absolutely massive campaign for the club. They need to sharpen up and get some silverware under their belt, and at the very least, they need to return to the Champions League.
All in all, Liverpool’s start to the season has actually been pretty reassuring for the red half of Merseyside. They drew 1-1 with Chelsea, beat Bournemouth 3-1, and then surprised many by coming from behind to defeat Newcastle on Tyneside with 10 men.
Aston Villa Form GuideAston Villa are a club transformed under Unai Emery. They really do feel like a complete unit for the first time in a long time, and their reward is the return of European football to Villa Park. Given what they’ve been able to do in the summer transfer window, many are wondering just how far up the table they can go. Right now, it feels like the sky is the limit for the Midlanders.
Ever since a 5-1 battering at the hands of Newcastle, Villa have been flawless. They took Everton apart in a 4-0 win at Villa Park, they beat Hibernian 5-0 in the first leg of their Conference League tie and won 3-0 in the second, and they defeated Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor.
Match PredictionThe result last weekend will give the Reds plenty of confidence heading into a game of this magnitude but at the same time, they’re going up against a red hot Aston Villa side. We think this one is going to come down to the wire and in the end, we’ll be left with another narrow Liverpool win.
