Annecy vs Toulouse Prediction (06.04.2023)

FC Annecy will attempt to spring another huge upset this week when they collide with Toulouse for a place in the Coupe de France final.

It’s a dream for many lower league sides to reach the latter stages of a cup competition - and for Annecy, that dream has become a reality. They have fought as hard as anyone in the Coupe de France this season and regardless of what happens from here, they’ve given their fans a campaign to remember as they continue to battle survival in Ligue 2.

After demolishing Villerupt Thil in the ninth round of the cup, Annecy went down the hard road in order to get to the final four. They first beat Belfort on penalties, they then did the same to Paris, and finally, they stunned Marseille on pens after a competitive 2-2 quarter-final.

It’s been a season of mediocrity in the league for Toulouse up to this point but when you combine that with a cup run such as this one, it’s hard for their fanbase to get too frustrated. The expectation is that they’ll be able to edge their way into the final without too much difficulty, but one thing they can’t afford to do in an encounter like this is get complacent.

In terms of their recent results, inconsistency has been the name of the game for Toulouse. They lost to Reims, then beat Rodez in the quarter-finals. They lost to Clermont, then beat Angers 2-0 before suffering consecutive defeats courtesy of Lille and Brest.

Callens has been vital in goal for Annecy and that’ll continue to be the case, with the underdogs having no major injury or suspension concerns to deal with.

Rouault is eligible to play despite a red card in the league over the weekend with Toulouse having no other big worries in terms of their starting XI.

Annecy have come this far, and you can bet they’re going to give it everything they’ve got in an attempt to reach a famous final. This one could well come down to endurance more so than anything else, and with that in mind, we’re going to predict that favourites Toulouse will get the win.
