The second of four games taking place in Serie A this weekend is a clash that will have implications on both the top and bottom of the standings. AC Milan, going nicely in second, travel away from home and they take on Sassuolo, a side who are currently in the relegation zone. Both teams want three points to aid their pushes, but who takes them on Sunday?
Sassuolo Form GuideI've been very surprised to see Sassuolo struggle this season. Of course, I wasn't expecting too much from them, but felt like they were good enough to keep above the relegation zone and out of the fight. But sadly for them, they're right in the mix, currently sit 19th and are two points from safety. Seven games remain, but the good news is that they have taken points in three of their last four.
They come here on the back of two draws in their last two games. The most recent was a 2-2 away tie with bottom club Salernitana last weekend, before that, they drew 1-1 at home to Udinese. A win in either of those, which was possible, would have really aided their chances.
AC Milan Form GuideAt the start of 2024, AC Milan seemed destined for third place, but a collapse by Juventus, and some very impressive form from AC Milan, and they've not only taken second, but they are now in complete control of it. They're six points clear of Juventus, and come here on a great run of form.
It's five wins in a row in the league, so they come here looking to make it six. During the same period, they won twice in the Europa League, however, they did suffer defeat during midweek when playing the first leg of their Europa League quarter final. That was a 1-0 loss to fellow Italian side Roma, so this game will be their first for a while where they play after a loss.
Match PredictionI fear for Sassuolo here, they're better than their league position suggests, but AC Milan are going along really well and playing some great football, so they are my pick for the win.
