UEFA Euro 2024 will take place next summer and the road to qualifying for that tournament continues this week with the latest international break. As clubs across the continent hit the pause button on their domestic leagues, plenty of countries will be hoping to edge closer to the finals. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun encounter between Switzerland and Belarus.
Switzerland Form GuideFor so many years now, Switzerland have been seen as dark horses in a lot of the international competitions they qualify for. In the end, though, they ultimately just make up the numbers, either falling away in the group stage or failing to do much of significance in the knockouts. Still, there’s a belief within the core of their squad, and that’s all you can really ask for at this point.
The Swiss rattled off convincing wins over Belarus, Israel and Andorra to set themselves up nicely in qualifying, only to drop points in 2-2 draws with Romania and Kosovo. They did, however, get back on the winning trail with a 3-0 win over Andorra.
Belarus Form GuideAs an independent nation, Belarus have never been able to qualify for a major international tournament - but with this group not exactly being the most stacked of the bunch, they’ll believe that there’s a chance they could make some noise. They are a gritty, physical outfit that is attempting to add some flair into proceedings, and we’re excited to see the end results.
Belarus’ three straight losses to Switzerland, Romania and Israel set them back, but they did manage to earn a hard-fought 2-1 win over Kosovo. From there, they were held to a 0-0 draw by Andorra before a tight 1-0 defeat at the hands of Israel last month.
Match PredictionThe problem for Belarus is that they just aren’t that convincing when reaching the final third, and set pieces are probably their only feasible route forward in terms of finding consistent success. This is going to be a physical game but in the end, it’ll be a comprehensive Switzerland win.
