UEFA Euro 2024 will take place next summer and the road to qualifying for that tournament continues this week with the latest international break. As clubs across the continent hit the pause button on their domestic leagues, plenty of countries will be hoping to edge closer to the finals. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun encounter between Northern Ireland and Slovenia.

Northern Ireland made their one and only appearance in the European Championships back in 2016, where they managed to make it all the way through to the knockouts. Ever since then, though, they haven’t been able to find the same level of success. Michael O’Neill is determined to bring through a crop of fresh, young talent, but there are still far more questions than answers.

While they may have qualified twice for the World Cup as an independent nation, Slovenia have only appeared at the Euros once - all the way back in 2000, and they didn’t even win a game. The strange part is that they always seem to come agonisingly close to getting over the finish line and this time around, they’ll have as much motivation as ever to go the extra mile.

Northern Ireland and Slovenia, when at their best, are fairly evenly matched - and we think that’s the kind of dynamic we’ll see play out in a game of this nature. The visitors will feel as if they can edge the win if they start strong, but our prediction is that we’re going to see a draw.
