With the majority of top leagues across Europe coming to an end, it’s time for Major League Soccer to step up. There are plenty of reasons why this campaign has the potential to be incredibly exciting but beyond that, it’s just been nice to see the continued growth and development of the game in North America. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming clash between St Louis City and Seattle Sounders.
St Louis Form GuideSt Louis did a tremendous job of topping the Western Conference and although the standard was lower in comparison to the East, they looked calm and composed. In the playoffs, however, they failed to live up to the hype, with their lack of experience really showing against Sporting Kansas City. They lost in back to back games, sending them crashing out of the competition.
St Louis have had a strange start to the season and that’s putting it lightly. While they’ve only lost three games in 13, they’ve also only won three, meaning they’ve picked up seven draws. That leaves them down in 9th place with a -1 goal difference and plenty to work on.
Seattle Form GuideDeath, taxes, Seattle being a threat in Major League Soccer. The Sounders have one of the biggest fanbases in the country and in the Western Conference, they were able to finish in 2nd place - just three points behind St. Louis. They managed to get through a gruelling three-game series with Dallas in the first playoff round, but in the conference semi-finals, they were beaten by Los Angeles FC.
Seattle are taking a while to warm up this year with just three wins, five draws and six losses across 14 games. They also haven’t been that prolific in front of goal but thankfully for them, they’ve been okay defensively, which leaves them down in 10th.
Match PredictionIn terms of overall quality, we’d argue that both of these teams should expect to be located towards the top of the conference by the time we get to the end of the campaign. Alas, they clearly haven’t started in that manner, which is why we’re going to shoot for a conservative draw here.
