French football is back this weekend with a full slate of fixtures across Ligue 1. There’s plenty to get excited about up and down the top flight and as we enter the last few weeks of February, it’ll be interesting to see who can start to build some momentum ahead of the next few months. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun encounter between Reims and Lens.
Reims Form GuideFollowing on from a top six finish a few years back, Reims have spent a lot of time lingering around mid-table. They have the ability to spring an upset from time to time but there’s still a lot of work that needs doing to the overall structure of the squad, although it must be said that Will Still has been able to have a really strong impact within the club and he deserves praise for his efforts.
Reims are usually pretty sharp in most departments and against Lorient, they appeared to be on course for another positive result - until it all went a bit south. Against the run of play, Lorient took the lead in the 70th minute before adding another in the 87th to secure a 2-0 win.
Lens Form GuideLast season, Lens truly did push PSG every step of the way in the title race and that’s a huge credit to how much hard work they’ve been putting in as a club in recent years. They were just one point away from springing an upset and for them, that’s a big takeaway. Now, though, they need to re-focus, because they’re certainly good enough to push for Europe again.
Lens’ resurgence continued last weekend as they played host to Strasbourg last Saturday. They went 2-0 up in the first half and while Strasbourg got one back, the hosts were able to restore their two-goal advantage through Florian Sotoca as they won 3-1.
Match PredictionOne thing we’re predicting here is fireworks - and we’ll be somewhat disappointed if we don’t get it. Both sides are full of life and energy when they really get going and we anticipate they’ll showcase that this weekend, in a game that ends in over 2.5 goals scored.
