UEFA Euro 2024 will take place next summer and the road to qualifying for that tournament continues this week with the latest international break. As clubs across the continent hit the pause button on their domestic leagues, plenty of countries will be hoping to edge closer to the finals. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun encounter between Faroe Islands and Poland.
Faroe Islands Form GuideFaroe Islands are here to disturb the peace. They’re slightly better than a lot of the smaller nations in Europe, but they are rarely good enough to even think about contending for qualification. They aren’t a team that can be dismissed with ease, though, and because of that, they have to be looked upon as live underdogs in a game like this - and so they should be.
Ever since a 1-1 draw with Moldova in late March, Faroe Islands have been in competitive - but ultimately unsuccessful - clashes with their European rivals. They have suffered five straight losses courtesy of North Macedonia, Czech Republic, Albania, Poland and Moldova.
Poland Form GuideFor years now, it’s felt as if the Poland national team has been going through a golden generation and a half - or, at least, that’s what we’ve been told. Despite that, they’ve never really been able to live up to their potential on the world stage. The Poles are one of the most interesting countries to watch when firing on all cylinders, but inconsistency is a big issue for them.
After losing 3-1 to Czech Republic in March, the Poles responded with nice wins over Albania and Germany. They did, however, lose 3-2 to Moldova, before a 2-0 win over Faroe Islands set them up for a shocking result as they lost 2-0 to Albania.
Match PredictionFaroe Islands will likely follow a similar path to the one they have been across the last few games - they’ll fight hard, they’ll come close, and they’ll ultimately fall short. It won’t be an overwhelming triumph, but we do think Poland will secure a narrow win here.
