Peterborough vs Doncaster Prediction (02.12.2023)

The FA Cup second round takes place this weekend, with teams knowing they could land a huge tie in the next round, potentially money spinning and against one of the biggest clubs in the world. That's the beauty of the cup, but that only comes for those who win here. League One Peterborough are the hosts here, and they play League Two Doncaster.

I've been really impressed with Peterborough this season, and still think they're the best team I have seen live in League One, fully deserving of their fifth position in the league right now. Promotion is the main aim for them, but the magic of the cup is likely to ensure they put plenty of focus on this game.

They arrive here on the back of a three game unbeaten run in the league, two wins came first in that, and then they drew on Tuesday night with Stevenage, 2-2 away from home. In the first round of the cup, Peterborough went all the way, drawing 2-2 away at Salford before drawing 4-4 in the replay and then winning 5-4 on penalties.

Doncaster had a dreadful start to the season, when I thought they would do well, because they got all their summer business done very early. But now they are finding their feet, they are up to 17th position, won last time out, and have a total of seven league wins from 19 games.

Doncaster won on Tuesday night, beating Colchester 3-1 in what was a very good home performance by them. In the FA Cup, Doncaster also needed a replay, they drew 2-2 with Accrington before winning the replay 2-1 to reach this stage.

Doncaster are respected given what they are doing in League Two, but I think this is going to be a step too far for them. I like Peterborough, they'll not want to have the scare they did in the first round, and I think they are going to win this and reach the third round.
