Necaxa vs Charlotte Prediction (29.07.2023)

While Liga MX and Major League Soccer are away, Leagues Cup will play. The very best from Mexico and the United States are battling it out in an electric tournament this summer as we attempt to determine who the best club in North America is. Today, we’ll be taking a look at a clash between Necaxa and Charlotte FC.

Necaxa’s Apertura campaign wasn’t great last season as they took too long to get going, and then in the Clausura, it got a whole lot worse. They won just three games in 17 and finished in 17th place, but the hope is that the break has given them some time to recuperate ahead of the new season. For now, all we can really do is sit back and wait to see how they develop.

While going down to ten men certainly didn’t help, Necaxa were just generally quite poor in their opening game of the Leagues Cup. They fell to a 3-0 loss to Dallas, which hardly bodes well for them heading into this collision.

As an expansion team, it’s hard for fans to expect all too much from Charlotte in their first few years of existence. It’s all about establishing themselves and when you consider that they probably don’t have the same kind of financial platform as other newcomers to the league, it becomes clear why they’re struggling. Still, they aren’t the worst team in the East, and they can often be enjoyable to watch.

Charlotte went back and forth with Dallas across the course of their game, with the final score being 2-2. The game eventually went to penalties and at that point, Charlotte’s composure took over as they ran out 4-1 winners in the shootout.

It just feels like Necaxa are really struggling to keep up right now which is a shame, given that they are in their 100th year celebration. On the flip side, their opponents are brand new and feel like a club that has a lot of room left to grow, which is why we’re backing a Charlotte win.
