With the majority of top leagues across Europe coming to an end, it’s time for Major League Soccer to step up. There are plenty of reasons why this campaign has the potential to be incredibly exciting but beyond that, it’s just been nice to see the continued growth and development of the game in North America. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming clash between Atlanta United and Los Angeles FC.
Atlanta Form GuideAtlanta United were once seen as the most exciting new team in the league but these days, they can’t quite put everything together in a way that guides them to a late playoff run. They did finish 6th in the Eastern Conference which was a pleasant surprise for many, but in the post-season, they were beaten in their best of three by eventual champions Columbus.
Big bad Atlanta aren’t so big and bad right now - quite the opposite, in fact. They have just three wins from 13 games in the league this season and while it’s certainly close in the conference, they currently find themselves in 12th place, on the outside of the playoffs looking in.
Los Angeles Form GuideIt’s tough to build consistency in a league like this one but in recent years, Los Angeles FC have been able to do just that. Between cup wins and long playoff runs, their fans have been treated to some great times. Now, it’s all about sustaining that. They still have a lot of quality in their ranks but with the Western Conference getting tougher and tougher, they need to stay focused.
LAFC are currently in 5th place in the West which, by their standards, isn’t ideal, but they’ve got plenty of time to regain some consistency. They have six wins, three draws and four losses at this point in the season, but they’re also one of the highest scorers with 24 in 13 games.
Match PredictionLAFC feel like the kind of team that could explode into life at any given moment - whereas for ATL, that seems like a distant possibility at this moment in time. We expect there to be some really interesting battles across the pitch but in terms of a result, we’re going for under 2.5 goals scored.
