In gameweek 37 of La Liga, Granada and Celta Vigo go head-to-head at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes on Sunday evening as the visitors look to secure safety in the Spanish top flight.
Granada are now just playing for prideThe Andalusians go into the penultimate Liga game of the 2023/24 season 19th place in the table and already consigned to life in the Segunda next season.
Unsurprisingly, considering their position, Jose Ramon Sandoval’s team hasn’t been in great form. Last time out, they lost 2-1 at Rayo Vallecano, their third consecutive defeat in the Spanish top flight.
Granada has struggled defensively this season, conceding a high number of goals. Only bottom-of-the-table Almeria has conceded more than the home side's tally of 70 goals.
This defensive vulnerability has been evident in their recent games, as they have conceded at least two goals in all three recent Liga defeats.
They also have a poor recent home record, winning just two of their last eight Liga games on home soil.
Inconsistent Celta only need a point to ensure survivalLos Celeste heads into this game five points clear of the relegation zone and needs just a point from their last two games to guarantee safety.
Claudio Giraldez’s team has been highly inconsistent lately in La Liga. They perform well on home soil but struggle to win on their travels.
This difference in home and away results is highlighted by the fact that the Galicians have won just one of their previous seven away matches, having suffered defeat in four of the last five Liga games on their travels.
Celta’s recent away games have at least produced entertainment in the form of goals, with over 2.5 goals scored in seven of their last eight away matches.
What am I backing?Granada has been in poor form, while Celta are poor on their travels. It is difficult to back either team for the victory. However, I do believe this game will produce goals, so the bet I am backing is over 2.5 goals scored.
