With the majority of top leagues across Europe coming to an end, it’s time for Major League Soccer to step up. There are plenty of reasons why this campaign has the potential to be incredibly exciting but beyond that, it’s just been nice to see the continued growth and development of the game in North America. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming clash between Toronto FC and FC Cincinnati.
Toronto Form GuideToronto were officially the worst team in the MLS last season with just 22 points from 34 games, featuring just four victories in that time. When you consider what they’ve been able to accomplish across the last decade as a whole, you really do have to wonder what went wrong. In addition, it’s hard not to be curious about what the next few months will look like for them.
Up to this point, Toronto have done a solid job of settling into the top five in the Eastern Conference - however, results wise, they’ve been a bit more inconsistent. In 14 games they have seven wins, one draw and six losses, with a goal difference of just +1.
Cincinnati Form GuideCincinnati made quite the splash last season as they won the Supporters’ Shield, which is handed out to the club with the best regular season record. They did so by accumulating 69 points but in the playoffs, they couldn’t make it all the way. They did get through NY Red Bulls and Philadelphia, only to fall short to Columbus in the conference finals.
Cincy have gotten off to a really comfortable start this season with nine wins, three draws and two losses behind them. They only trail Miami at this point in the campaign and they’ve only conceded 11 goals in 14 games, showcasing their defensive strength.
Match PredictionIt certainly feels as if Toronto and Cincinnati are on a pretty even footing in terms of overall quality and in a game like this, we don’t think they’ll be ready to take too many chances. We anticipate a technical and nervy game, and in terms of a prediction, we’re going to shoot for a draw.
