We’re entering the final stages of the Ligue 1 season as teams up and down French football’s top flight attempt to finish the campaign off strong. It’s been a rollercoaster ride up to this point and over the course of the next few weeks, we expect to see more of the same across the nation. Last season, Lens truly did push PSG every step of the way in the title race and that’s a huge credit to how much hard work they’ve been putting in as a club in recent years. They were just one point away from springing an upset and for them, that’s a big takeaway. Now, though, they need to re-focus, because they’re certainly good enough to push for Europe again.

After wins over Lyon and Brest, Lens fell to two straight losses against Nice and Lille. They managed to earn a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Le Havre, but they were soon given another shock in the form of a 2-1 loss to Metz.

Clermont Foot had an incredible season last time out but if they want to avoid a relegation battle, they need to forget about the past and move forward to the future. They have a team that is more than capable of springing an upset if called upon, but that’s never been their problem. Their problem has been consistency and avoiding complacency, which is why we’re interested to see how they navigate the weeks ahead.

Across their last six games, Clermont Foot have managed just one win - a 2-1 triumph over Le Havre. Alongside that, they’ve also drawn 1-1 with PSG and Montpellier, in addition to suffering defeats against Marseille, Metz and Toulouse.

These two sides are fighting for very different things right now which, in itself, should make this an exciting affair. Lens have more routes to victory than Clermont but the visitors know that it’s now or never in their push for survival. In our view, the likeliest outcome here is over 2.5 goals scored.
