Real Sociedad vs Benfica Prediction (08.11.2023)

The UEFA Champions League returns to our lives once again this week as we enter the second half of the group stage. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what is bound to be an electric clash between Real Sociedad and Benfica.

Over the course of the last few years, Real Sociedad have emerged as one of the bright new sparks in Spanish football. Now, it’s all about seeing whether or not they can build on that, furthering their cause on the European stage. They’ve got an abundance of talent at their disposal but they’ll have to produce something special if they want to reach the knockouts.

While they did concede a late equaliser, Sociedad would’ve been happy to get a point against Inter Milan in their opener. Since then, they haven’t conceded a goal in the competition in solid victories over RB Salzburg and Benfica.

Benfica claimed the Primeira Liga championship last season to re-establish themselves as the top dogs in Portuguese football. However, in Europe, it’s been a long time since they’ve really been able to make a sustained push for the final. They’ve got a well-balanced squad full of exciting talent, and there’s a lot of belief within their camp that they can go far.

After a shock 2-0 loss at home to RB Salzburg, Benfica fans probably knew their side was in trouble. From there, they were beaten 1-0 by Inter Milan, before another 1-0 loss - this time at home to Real Sociedad just a few weeks ago.

Benfica have their back against the wall and they need to respond in a big way here, which is going to be easier said than done. Sociedad know they’re in a comfortable position but will also fancy themselves at home, with our prediction being over 2.5 goals scored.
