Ajax vs Liverpool Prediction (26.10.2022)

Wednesday night sees Ajax and Liverpool go head-to-head at the Johan Cruyff Arena in a vital Group A game in the Champions League.

Ajax are once again dominating their domestic league. However, they have found European football’s elite competition a tougher nut to crack. The scenario is simple for the Dutch champions; they simply have to win to avoid elimination in gameweek five of the Champions League.

After opening their Group A campaign with a 4-0 mauling of Rangers, Alfred Schreuder’s team has suffered three straight defeats, conceding at least two goals in each loss. A 4-2 defeat at Napoli means Ajax has won just one of their last six Champions League games.

The men from Merseyside are experiencing a difficult campaign. Jurgen Klopp’s team is currently midtable in the Premier League table. However, the Reds have taken nine points from their first four games in the Champions League. A point from their last two games in Group A would seal their spot in the knockout stages of the competition.

An incredible 7-1 win at Rangers in their last European game made history, as forward Mohamed Salah came off the substitutes bench and became the first player ever to score a Champions League hat-trick as a substitute. The victory also saw Liverpool record their third straight European win and score at least twice for the third consecutive match.

Ajax look set to be without Mohamed Ihattaren, Kenneth Taylor, Devyne Rensch and Ahmetcan Kaplan. Liverpool are expected to be without Arthur, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Joel Matip due to injury. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are not eligible to play.

This game has goals written all over it, as both teams have been potent and vulnerable in defence this season. I am backing this game to produce over 2.5 goals.
