Ajaccio vs Marseille Prediction (03.06.2023)

Ajaccio and Marseille will collide this weekend as the Ligue 1 season comes to an end.

It’s been a campaign to forget for Ajaccio as they prepare for life back in Ligue 2. In many ways, they weren’t really able to put up much of a fight, with their big problem being their inability to score. They’ve put away just 22 goals in 37 appearances so far this season, and it’s safe to say that they’re going to have a lot of questions to answer when we get to the summer transfer window.

Ever since their 0-0 draw with Toulouse, Ajaccio have just sat back and allowed the criticism to come flooding in thanks to a string of poor performances. They were battered 5-0 by PSG, 5-0 by Rennes, and finally 3-0 to Lens last weekend.

They’re often referred to as the ultimate bridesmaid and this season, they’ve pushed the pace once again - but they haven’t been able to claim that runners-up spot. Instead, they’ve had to settle for third spot, and we do wonder whether or not that’ll be a catalyst for change. It isn’t necessarily needed straight away, but you can bet there will be some notable changes in the summer.

After beating Lyon and Auxerre, Marseille slipped up in a 2-1 loss away at Lens - although it was competitive. They proceeded to beat Angers 3-1 before losing back-to-back games at the hands of Lille and Brest.

Alphonse is suspended for Ajaccio but the good news is that Mangani is back from a suspension of his own.

Ounahi and Harit are both injured for the visitors with Rongier and Payet serving respective suspensions.

Fireworks is what we’ve come to expect from the final day across Europe and we think that’s exactly what we’ll see again here. Ajaccio are likely to experiment given that they’ve already gone down whereas Marseille will want to finish strong and ultimately, we believe that’ll lead to over 2.5 goals scored.
