AC Milan vs Sampdoria Prediction (20.05.2023)

AC Milan are in a fight for the top four and in the final game from Serie A on Saturday, take on already relegated Sampdoria in a clash that they simply have to get three points from.

Coming into the weekend, AC Milan are sitting in 5th position with 61 points. That's enough for the Europa League as things stand, but the top four is where they will have their eyes. Four points off Lazio with three games to go, AC Milan will want to put the pressure on, and will see this as a game where three points are needed to do that.

Milan have won just one of their last four games, with a defeat and two draws alongside that, and it was the defeat that came in their most recent game. They were beaten 2-0 away at Spezia, a team down in the relegation zone, and won't want the same fate here. Crucially though, Sampdoria are already relegated while Spezia are still fighting.

Sampdoria come into the final three games of the season with nothing to play for, they have already been relegated and will spend next season in Serie B. With just three wins so far this season, it's easy to see why they are bottom of the league, and had some of their nine draws been turned into wins, they may still be fighting now.

They come here on the back of a 1-1 draw with Empoli last week, but before that it was three defeats in a row as Sampdoria continue to show us why they have been relegated. It hasn't been good enough, and the feeling is that the players just want to get to the end of the season as quickly as possible.

A game that AC Milan need to win, and playing the already relegated Sampdoria should give them the perfect opportunity to do so. I'm backing a Milan win here on the -1.5 handicap line, to win by two goals or more as I think they will have more than enough to get the job done and record a comfortable success.
