We’re getting down to the nitty gritty in the UEFA Champions League as we approach the final matchday for this year’s competition. All 32 clubs involved know what is at stake over the course of the next 90 minutes, with some being in control of their own destiny and others needing a favour. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun clash between Newcastle United and AC Milan.
Newcastle Form GuideNewcastle United fans should be incredibly proud of what their club has been able to achieve in Europe’s top club competition. Sure, they’re still battling away in an attempt to qualify for the last 16, but there’s no way of denying how much fun their run has been up to this point. For Eddie Howe, though, we imagine he won’t be satisfied unless they book their spot in the next round.
After a 0-0 draw at the San Siro, Newcastle shocked the world by beating PSG 4-1. From there, they lost consecutive games to Borussia Dortmund, before having their hearts broken in Paris as a controversial late penalty decision handed PSG a 1-1 draw.
AC Milan Form GuideWhile AC Milan have certainly rediscovered their identity on the world stage, they’ve struggled to really get things going in the group stage this season. That’s probably due to the fact that they’re in an unbelievably tough group of death, but with one game to go, they’re still in with a chance of qualification - and we certainly wouldn’t be the ones to put it past them.
Milan started off slowly with two 0-0 draws against Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund. They then traded blows with PSG as they lost 3-0 in Paris before winning 2-1 on their home turf. Then, when hosting Dortmund, they somewhat fell apart in a 3-1 defeat.
Match PredictionBoth teams need to win this game but as we saw in the reverse fixture, they are pretty evenly matched - and you could even argue Milan are slightly better. Alas, the home crowd is going to be in full voice for the Magpies, with our instinct being that we’ll see a draw.
