We are entering the final handful of fixtures as the Chinese Super League season begins to wind down. It’s been a campaign full of highs and lows for all 16 clubs in the top flight and now, it’s time to really step up and finish things off strong. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun encounter between Dalian Aerbin and Wuhan Three Towns.
Dalian Form GuideIt has been a season of disappointment for Dalian and that’s an understatement. At this point, the only hope they have is finding a way to maintain their place in the top flight, as they struggle with Nantong to avoid one of the final two spots in the drop zone. Their problem, among other things, has been putting the ball in the back of the net, and there’s great cause for worry in that department in the next few weeks.
After a 1-0 loss to Tianjin last month, Dalian did incredibly well to hold on to earn a 0-0 draw at home to Shandong - one of the toughest assignments in the league. They did, however, fail to really show up against Beijing, losing 2-0.
Wuhan Form GuideFollowing on from their sensational title triumph last season, it was always going to be difficult for the now-infamous city of Wuhan to repeat their success - or even come close. While they’ve had a few moments of magic in recent months that have taken fans back to those glory days, there’s still a lot of work to be done if they want to qualify for the Champions League.
Following three wins on the trot against Chengdu, Nantong and Shijiazhuang, Wuhan came unstuck in two difficult games last month. They were first beaten 1-0 by Tianjin before a narrow, but somewhat expected, 2-1 loss at the hands of Shandong.
Match PredictionWuhan’s recent form should give their fanbase cause for concern, especially when heading to face a team that is posed with the threat of relegation. We expect this to be much tighter than many anticipate, which is why we’re going to go ahead and predict a draw.
