Major League Soccer is back in our lives for yet another season of action across North America. We’re in the early stages of the new campaign but there’s already so much to get excited about from West to East, as the majority of teams gear up for a hopeful run to the MLS Cup. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what promises to be an intriguing clash between Vancouver Whitecaps and Charlotte FC.
Vancouver Form GuideVancouver did a solid job of getting into the playoffs with a sixth place finish in the Western Conference. From there, they earnt a meeting with Los Angeles in the first round, but they bowed out in pretty convincing fashion. Despite such a setback, they’ve still got the kind of infrastructure necessary to make some noise in the weeks and months ahead - and we’re intrigued to see how they perform.
Vancouver are the only team in the league who have yet to play, adding a certain layer of mystery to this encounter.
Charlotte Form GuideAs an expansion team, it’s hard for fans to expect all too much from Charlotte in their first few years of existence. It’s all about establishing themselves and when you consider that they probably don’t have the same kind of financial platform as other newcomers to the league, it becomes clear why they’re struggling. Still, they aren’t the worst team in the East, and they can often be enjoyable to watch.
Charlotte and New York were largely well-matched in their opener last weekend but in the end, it was the hosts who were able to edge out the result, with Charlotte picking up a 1-0 win.
Match PredictionThere are some intriguing figures who can change the game for both teams but in our view, there’s nothing that jumps out as being overly convincing on either side of the pitch. In terms of an official prediction, we’re going to shoot for a draw that both will probably be satisfied with.
