We’re in the endgame now, ladies and gentlemen. The Premier League season is entering the final furlong with just a handful of games remaining for clubs up and down English football’s top tier. Whether it be the title race, the relegation battle or anything in between, there’s still a lot left to be determined. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming clash between Newcastle United and Sheffield United.
Newcastle Form GuideWhile things are certainly moving in a positive direction for Newcastle United Football Club, things haven’t been smooth sailing for Eddie Howe’s men this season. They’re still very much in the mix when it comes to the hunt for European places, but for Eddie Howe, you’d have to think that he wants to see a little bit more as we approach the final run-in in the next few weeks.
Following a 2-0 loss to Manchester City, Newcastle went on a nice four-game unbeaten streak as they defeated West Ham, Fulham and Tottenham to run alongside a 1-1 draw with Everton. They did, however, fall to a disappointing 2-0 loss on the road to Crystal Palace this past week.
Sheffield United Form GuideSheffield United fans know that they are the favourites for the drop and in a lot of ways, it feels like they don’t have much to lose because of that. Chris Wilder will do everything in his power to keep them in the top flight but they need a big shift in momentum in the next couple of weeks. Whether or not they can make that change, though, remains to be seen, and it seems unlikely.
Sheffield United did well to pick up a point in draws with Fulham and Chelsea. Alas, they’ve also suffered defeats at the hands of Liverpool, Brentford, Burnley and, most recently, Manchester United after initially leading at Old Trafford.
Match PredictionSheffield United know that it’s do or die here and they really need to throw caution to the wind. The Magpies, meanwhile, have a place in Europe to secure. This should be a pretty physical affair but in terms of the actual result, we’re going to shoot for a Newcastle victory.
