The Premier League is back with a full set of midweek fixtures as we return to regularly scheduled programming to end the chaotic month of January. There are so many things up in the air at both ends of the table but hopefully, in the weeks ahead, we’ll start to get a bit more clarity. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun clash between Crystal Palace and Sheffield United.
Crystal Palace Form GuideThe further into the season we go, the more we’re seeing Crystal Palace fans question the position of manager Roy Hodgson. He’s done a lot of good for the club during his association with the Eagles, but there’s a very real chance that they’re going to be in a relegation battle in the months ahead. If they want to change that, they may need to consider a change at the top.
Following a 1-1 draw with Brighton and a 2-1 loss to Chelsea, Palace managed to pull off an important 3-1 win over Brentford. They proceeded to draw with Everton in the cup, lose the replay 2-1, and then suffer a 5-0 humbling at the hands of Arsenal.
Sheffield United Form GuideSheffield United fans know that they are the favourites for the drop and in a lot of ways, it feels like they don’t have much to lose because of that. Chris Wilder will do everything in his power to keep them in the top flight but they need a big shift in momentum in the next couple of months. Whether or not they can make that change, though, remains to be seen.
After a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, United lost to Luton and Manchester City to finish off 2023. They started the new year in style by battering Gillingham 4-0, and from there, they drew 2-2 with West Ham before a 5-2 battering at the hands of Brighton in the FA Cup.
Match PredictionNeither of these teams are exactly setting the world alight in the Premier League right now and we think they’re going to bring a certain nervous energy into this game. Palace will try to utilise their impact players but ultimately fall short, with our prediction being a draw.
