The top tier of French football is back this week with another full slate of exciting Ligue 1 fixtures as we count down the days until Christmas arrives at our front door. There are plenty of reasons to get excited about what’s to come in the next few weeks and months, and today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a pretty intriguing clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Metz.
PSG Form GuideParis Saint-Germain have been the top dogs in France for as long as we can remember but up to this point, they haven’t quite been able to translate that into success on the European stage. They still have superstar names at their disposal and Kylian Mbappe is the main man up top, but you have to wonder whether or not a rebuild is on the way sooner rather than later.
After dominating Monaco 5-2, PSG were fortunate to earn a 1-1 draw with Newcastle thanks to a controversial VAR decision. They proceeded to beat Le Havre and Nantes before consecutive and disappointing draws against Borussia Dortmund and Lille.
Metz Form GuideAfter just one season away from the spotlight, Metz are back in the big time - and they’re ready to ruffle a few feathers. They aren’t considered to be too much of a threat by the elite of the elite but for them, that probably won’t matter a whole lot. They have the talent necessary to spring an upset here and there, and you can bet they’re going to put up a much better fight this time around.
Following a 1-1 draw with Lyon, Metz fought hard to earn victories against Nantes and Lorient. Unfortunately, they haven’t been able to keep that momentum going, slipping to three straight defeats courtesy of Lille, Brest and Montpellier.
Match PredictionMetz are going to create some problems for the hosts here, as has been their nature across the last few months. They’ll pile forward while leaving themselves a little bit vulnerable at the back which, unfortunately for them, will lead us down the path of a PSG win.
