French football’s top tier is back this week as we prepare for another set of electric Ligue One fixtures. We’re entering the month of February and while that may mean we’re still in the midst of the winter blues, the action on the pitch gives us plenty of cause for excitement. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun clash between Brest and Nice.
Brest Form GuideStade Brestois 29 were not a million miles away from slipping into the relegation picture last season, and that’s worth remembering when you take a look at just how well they’ve looked thus far. Sure, there’s a bigger argument to be had about the state of the top flight as a whole, but Brest are looking like the kind of team who could really cause some problems between now and May.
Brest have had a fantastic season up to this point and that was on full display in their visit to take on Paris Saint-Germain. They went 2-0 down and despite that adversity, they thought their way back into the game and claimed a massive 2-2 draw.
Nice Form GuideAfter another midtable campaign last season, Nice went back to the drawing board in the summer and did everything they could to assemble a strong, competitive unit from top to bottom. Based on early evidence, it certainly seems as if they’ve achieved that goal, but the big test will come when they have to maintain this consistency for months and months.
Nice were in full control of Metz but despite that, they weren’t quite able to get things going in the final third until the last 15 minutes of the game. Evann Guessand scored from the spot in the 77th, with Nice holding on to claim a 1-0 win.
Match PredictionBrest and Nice are both intriguing teams to watch and we believe this is going to be a tight, technical affair as they continue their underdog pursuit of the title. In terms of a result, we believe they’re going to cancel each other out in an eventful draw.
