The Monday night game in La Liga pits struggling Granada against Atletico Madrid at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes.
The teams have very different objectives for the season, but who will enhance their chances of reaching their goals in this clash?
Struggling to meet their objectivesGranada’s main aim this season would have been survival. Unfortunately for the Andalusian outfit, they are currently in 19th place in the table, five points adrift of the safety of 17th place.
Atletico Madrid will have hoped to have mounted a title challenge or, at the very least, finish in La Liga’s top four. However, Diego Simeone’s team is currently in fifth place in the Spanish top-flight table, three points adrift of fourth-place reigning champions Barcelona.
Not in great formBoth teams are not where they want to be in the league table because they have been on poor recent runs of form in the Spanish top flight.
Granada has won just one of their last 17 games in La Liga, losing three of their last four Liga matches. That is the sort of run that gets teams relegated.
Meanwhile, the men from Madrid have won just once in their previous four games in La Liga.
Goals are a problemBoth teams have a problem with goals, as Granada has not scored enough of late, while Atletico has been uncharacteristically leaky in defence in recent games.
Granada has failed to score in three of their previous four outings in the Spanish top-flight.
Surprisingly, considering Simeone’s team is usually strong in defence, Los Colchoneros have conceded at least two goals in their last four outings in all competitions while also conceding at least twice in three of their last four La Liga outings.
What am I backing?Despite neither team’s league results being great of late, I still believe there is a massive class divide between the two teams. The bet I am backing is the away victory.
