UEFA Euro 2024 will take place next summer and the road to qualifying for that tournament continues this week with the latest international break. As clubs across the continent hit the pause button on their domestic leagues, plenty of countries will be hoping to edge closer to the finals. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun encounter between Gibraltar and Ireland.
Gibraltar Form GuideAs a national team that is barely a decade old, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Gibraltar are underdogs. It happens in just about every game they partake in and, really, so it should. They don’t really have the resources necessary to make this kind of operation work right now but in truth, it’s all about baby steps, which is why it’ll be exciting to see how things continue to develop.
Across their last six games, Gibraltar have failed to get on the scoresheet - and they’ve also lost all six games. They’ve been beaten by the Netherlands, France, Ireland, Malta, Greece and most recently Wales, the latter of which being a friendly.
Ireland Form GuideIreland is a proud nation across all sporting fronts and that much is obvious. They have been to the top of the mountain in so many different practices but within the realm of football, it still seems as if there’s work to be done. They need to restore that national pride within the squad itself and from there, trust in bright youngsters that are actually willing to give their heart and soul to the badge.
Outside of a win over Gibraltar, the Irish have been really poor in their last six games. They’ve been beaten by France, Greece, France again, the Netherlands and, once again, the Greeks - and they can no longer qualify for the Euros.
Match PredictionThis is a game between two teams that don’t have much to lose, but they also don’t have a whole lot to play for. Our prediction is that under 2.5 goals will be scored, and we really don’t think that’s much of a stretch.
