The Serie A weekend comes to a close on Monday night, with one game taking place. Genoa are the home side, in the bottom half of the table but clear of the relegation battle and they welcome Cagliari, a side a couple of places below as we start the weekend, but still involved in the relegation battle, and with a little more work to do.
Genoa Form GuideAs we begin the weekend, Genoa are 12th with 39 points, and that'll be the case by the time they play, although they could have a bit more pressure on them from behind, if teams win. It's been a solid enough season, I don't think expectations were any higher than where they are now, and they'll look to finish the final five games well.
Recent form has been good, but they do come here on the back of a defeat. They lost 1-0 at home to Lazio last weekend, but that still isn't a bad result considering their opponents. Before that, four unbeaten with a win away at Verona and draws against Fiorentina, Frosinone and Juventus, so they have been going along nicely, despite having little to play for.
Cagliari Form GuideTalking of playing well, and that has to be mentioned for Cagliari. They looked in deep trouble only a few weeks ago, but are kicking nicely clear of the relegation zone. They begin the weekend on 32 points, which is four clear of danger, and that is thanks to a run where they've gone unbeaten in four.
It's only been one win, with three draws, but the consistency to keep putting points on the board is something that few others near the bottom are capable of doing. The win was a 2-1 home success over Atalanta, while they've drawn with Juventus 2-2, Inter Milan 2-2 and Verona 1-1, all of those are good results, even getting draws in them games.
Match PredictionGiven how they are digging in and finding a way to pick up points, I will take Cagliari here on the double chance market. That covers them to win the game, or it to end in a draw, and I think they are more than capable of picking something up on Monday night.
