The Premier League returns this weekend following the international break as we continue with the run-in toward the end of the campaign. There’s still plenty left to fight for at both ends of the table, and it feels like we’re going to get a few more answers over the course of the next few days. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be an intriguing clash between Chelsea and Burnley.
Chelsea Form GuideThis season hasn’t been particularly fruitful for Mauricio Pochettino and while it may not seem like it, a lot rests on how they bounce back between now and May. They need to make a real fight of it in their pursuit of European football because if they don’t, they could find themselves going through yet another major change by the time the summer window rolls around.
Since losing to Liverpool in the League Cup final, Chelsea have been on a nice run of form. They beat Leeds and Leicester in the FA Cup, defeated Newcastle in the Premier League, and secured a 2-2 draw on the road against local rivals Brentford.
Burnley Form GuideWe’re at the point now where it’s okay for Burnley fans to start panicking. The Clarets enjoyed a really strong run in the Championship but unfortunately for their loyal fanbase, they haven’t been able to make a smooth transition back into the top flight. Vincent Kompany will continue to fight, but it’s easy to understand why there’s so much uncertainty surrounding the club.
Following four losses on the bounce in the league, Burnley picked up a point in a 2-2 draw with West Ham - but it could’ve and should’ve been more. Then, prior to the international break, they secured a win that they desperately needed in a 2-1 triumph over Brentford.
Match PredictionWe’d like to think that Burnley will put their best foot forward here against a Blues side that are more than capable of self-destructing from time to time. This is going to be an interesting fair but ultimately, we’re going to predict a Chelsea win, even if we don’t think it’ll be particularly convincing.
