The 2024 Winter Transfer Window in some of Europe’s biggest football leagues is finally over. During the last 30 days, we had the chance to watch many different transfers, some of which were more intriguing than others. There were a lot of rumours about a few big moves, but in the end, not all of them took place.

Luckily, Nostrabet.com reports that there were several big changes, such as Radu Drăgușin’s transfer. “I am not surprised that the young Romanian player decided to leave Serie A in favour of the English Premier League. He used to be a part of Genoa, but after the 25M EUR transfer, he will be playing for Tottenham,” said Kristiyan, the football expert at NB.

While Radu Drăgușin’s transfer was impressive, it was just one of the many moves in the winter transfer window of 2024. The Romanian player was rumoured to join Bayern Munich, but in the end, he will play in the English Premier League. Many football fans expected this to happen because Tottenham was in dire need of a centre-back.

There are many other transfers that are worth mentioning, so let’s dive in and learn more about each one.

2024 Winter Transfer Market: Top 9 Most Expensive Players

Vitor Roque – From Athletico-Paranaense to Barcelona for €40M

Although the 2024 winter transfer window was not that interesting regarding transfers, one of them stood out. The most expensive transfer this winter is Vitor Roque’s move from Athletico-Paranaense to Barcelona. The Spanish club had to pay close to 40 Million to get one of the most promising strikers.

According to the information we have, Vitor Roque has a €500 release clause, which is impressive for a player who is just 18 years old. Having said that, the young Brazilian already made a name for himself in his country.

Roque played for the likes of Atletico Mineiro and Cruzeiro. In fact, the latter was where he made his debut when he was just 16 years old. Other than that, the striker played a key role in Athletico’s first state championship and took part in the Brazil vs Morocco match.

Now, he is a part of one of the most competitive football leagues in the world, and it’s no surprise that many people will keep a close eye on his performance.

Sacha Boey – from Galatasaray to Bayern Munich for €30M

Another intriguing transfer that took place during the winter transfer window is that of Sacha Boey. The 23-year-old French superstar was a part of Galatasaray, where he quickly established himself as one of the top players. It’s no surprise this got the attention of a lot of big European clubs, one of which was Bayern Munich.

After talking to a couple of big clubs, Sacha Boey decided to become a part of the German squad in the end. The French player signed a 4-and-a-half-year contract, which means he should be a part of the Bundesliga until June 2028.

Boey became popular when he joined Galatasaray in 2021. During his more than 2 and a half year stay in Turkey, Boey scored 4 goals and 4 assists. Moreover, he had a key role in Galata’s success in winning the league title in season 2022/23.

Eljif Elmas – from, Napoli to RB Leipzig for €24M

Another exciting transfer in January included the attacking midfielder Eljif Elmas. The Macedonian player was a part of Napoli, but he decided to sign a four-and-a-half-year contract with RB Leipzig. In other words, he is making a move from Serie A to the Bundesliga.

Eljif Elmas had a vital role for Napoli last season because he played in 36 out of 38 matches for the club in Serie A. Napoli finally managed to break the curse and win the title after 33 years. Elmas continues to be a part of Napoli’s core team in the 2023/24 season, but the Italian club will have to find someone to replace him.

Renan Lodi – From Marseille to Al-Hilal for €23M

Just when we thought that we would not see a big transfer to Saudi Arabia in the 2024 winter transfer window, Al-Hilal surprised us yet again. After playing for Marseille, the 25-year-old Brazilian player decided to accept the offer from the Saudi club. As a result, he signed a contract with the team that will be valid until the end of 2027.

During his time in Marseille, Lodi was a key figure in the team’s defence. The player’s ability to help his team when attacking has led to numerous situations that resulted in a goal. All those things have not gone unnoticed, which is one of the reasons why Al-Hilal decided to acquire his signature.

Adam Wharton – From Blackburn to Crystal Palace for €21.1M

One of the transfers in the last couple of days involves Adam Wharton. The young English player was a part of Blackburn Robers, but he accepted the offer from Crystal Palace. As a result, the latter will pay around 21M EUR for the player’s signature.

Wharton is an interesting name in English football because he was named the best young player in Blackburn for the 2022/23 season. It seems like Palace really wanted to get him on board because they already made an offer to Blackburn a few weeks ago worth around 18M EUR, but it was turned down. Considering that the winter transfer window was almost over, the club decided to step up its game and make a better offer.

Lucas Beraldo – from Sau Paulo to Paris Saint-Germain for €20M

Also known as “The Joker”, Lucas Beraldo was an exciting name during the 2024 winter transfer window because he was rumoured to join Liverpool. However, the 20-year-old Brazilian defender decided to join Paris Sanit-Germain.

The player quickly rose to fame after he had a fantastic season with Sao Paulo. He became a part of the club in 2020, and over the years, he has made a name for himself as one of the top defenders in Brazil. He had been on and off the field until 2023, when Sao Paulo had problems with three of their key defenders. This allowed Beraldo to shine and took full advantage of it. The player had a key role in Sao Paulo’s first Copa do Brasil title.

Gabriel Moscardo – from Corinthias to Paris Saint-Germain for €20M

After adding Beraldo to their roster, PSG decided to make yet another move and get a second Brazilian player in the 2024 winter transfer window. This time, the French powerhouse paid €20M to Corinthians to get Gabriel Moscardo.

Following several weeks of negotiating, in the end, Gabriel Moscado accepted PSG’s offer. However, fans won’t be able to see him in action right away. According to the information we know, Moscarado will be loaned back to his training club until the end of the season. Furthermore, the 18-year-old will have to go through surgery because there was some sort of problem during the medical examination.

Gabrial Moscarado has signed a 4-and-a-half-year contract with PSG. Considering the surgery and the fact that he will be loaned back to Corinthians, we will have to wait until we see him wearing PSG’s shirt.

Arthur Vermeeren – from Royal Antwerp to Atlético Madrid for €18M

Another top-tier Spanish football club got a new player during the winter transfer window of 2024, and its name is Atlético Madrid. The latter decided to sign in Arthur Vermeeren from Antwerp. The midfielder has signed a 6-and-a-half-year contract until June 2030, so he will have plenty of time to make a difference while playing for his new club.

Regarding the transfer fee, Atlético Madrid paid 18M EUR for his signature, as well as €5M extra in add-ons. On top of that, there is a clause in the transfer that Antwerp will get 10% of the amount that Atlético Madrid will get, should the club decide to sell Arthur Vermeeren.

This player was rumoured to have joined a few other clubs, including Barcelona and Tottenham, but in the end, he chose Atlético Madrid. Despite his age, the player had already made his debut for the Belgium national team, and he was Antwerp’s captain in the Champions League even though he was only 18 years old. In other words, he has solid experience.

Conclusion

Besides the 2024 winter transfer window signings, some players will be a part of a new club on a loan transfer. Kalvin Philips is a good example because the 28-year-old will play for West Ham instead of Manchester City.

Jadon Sancho is another big name that will be loaned to another club. The former Manchester United player will join Borussia Dortmund. Other interesting loans include Timo Wermer, Goncalo Guedes, Ian Maatsen, Orel Mangala, and more.
