You probably know that the iGaming industry continues to move at a fast pace. There are new market updates, regulatory changes, product launches, and more, so the Nostrabet.com team and I decided to dive deep into everything new. Join me as I unveil everything more interesting from the last week.

The Supreme Court in the Netherlands Ruled Against Players

Monday kicked off with a landmark decision from the Supreme Court of the Netherlands. According to it, players seeking reimbursement for cases dating back to before the country’s regulated iGaming market began in 2021 are not automatically entitled to it. This is huge, and it will definitely cause some issues in the country.

The ruling was made in response to questions from Amsterdam’s District Court, as well as the District Court of North Holland. It’s definitely a controversial decision, but some people actually support it.

The original cases involved a player who lost around $140K between 2006 and 2021, and another who lost $135K between 2020 and 2021. Both asked the courts to decide whether their contracts with the specific operator were void. The idea was for them to recover their losses.

It will be interesting to see whether courts in other parts of the world will follow this decision.

Italy to Add a 2% levy on Domestic Football Bets

italy plans football bet tax

Italy is in the spotlight after a new bill proposes a 2% levy on bets placed on domestic football. The idea behind that levy is to find the country’s football system.

The suggestion comes from Senator Paolo Marchenschi, and it’s a part of broader efforts to help Italian football. People familiar with the situation know that many clubs in the country have mounting debts and other challenges.

Assuming the proposed legislation becomes a reality, all domestic football bets placed within the country will have the levy. This includes both online bets and those who place bets in betting shops.

The operators who collect football wagers must remit the 2% charge quarterly. The country’s economy and finance ministry will decide how to implement the rules, and it will have six months to do so once the new law takes effect.

It’s worth noting that people have been discussing these changes for some time. Assuming it comes into power, it will not be the first levy. It seems like the clubs need another revenue source, and the government is doing whatever is possible to do that.

The UK Gambling Commission Confirmed the Launch of the Financial Risk Assessments

The phased rollout of the Financial Risk Assessments for high-spending clients is finally here. Even though there was significant pushback from companies across the sector, the Gambling Commission announced its measures.

The idea behind the new feature is to allow people to have more protection. Those who have deposited over 5000 GBP within 24 hours will automatically have to go through a credit check. According to UKGC stats, only 0.5% of UK customers cross this threshold.

An interesting fact is that the threshold will begin from a different amount, depending on the player’s age. Younger players will have to go through that check after they deposit 2500 GBP within 24 hours.

Keep in mind that these thresholds are just for the test period. Once the system is fully on, the FRA will trigger once people deposit over 1000 GBP within 24 hours or 3000 GBP within a few days. This will apply to people over 25, whereas those under 25 will trigger the same check if the amount is 750 GBP or 2000 GBP, respectively.

The Court in Brazil Revoked the Preliminary Injunction Granted to Spribe

the court in brazil revoked spibe injunction

Several months ago, there was a legal battle between Spribe, the company behind the popular crash game Aviator, and another company over the use of the AVIATOR trademark. Even though Spribe actually won the case, it seems like the company won’t be able to use the word after all because the Pernambuco Court of Justice revoked the preliminary injunction.

Based on the court’s ruling, the reasons why the other court granted Spribe the “victory” in the case are no longer present. Spribe won’t be able to claim any exclusivity based on that registration.

It seems the previous decision was issued because the authorities believed Spribe’s trademark was registered with the country’s property and trademark office. This was the case, but the Federal Court actually suspended the legal effect of that registration, which led to these changes.

But what caused Brazil’s authorities to change their mind? Well, the Public Prosecutor’s Office had an ongoing investigation against abusive practises by Spribe that led to misleading advertisements. It seems there was a discrepancy between Aviator’s true RTP and the one the company was advertising.

Play’n GO is now Available in Colombia via a Partnership with Betano

Based on the latest news, online casino fans in Colombia will now have access to different Play’n GO games. This became possible after the reputable casino software company got a partnership deal with Betano.

People using one of the biggest iGaming operators in Latin America will now have access to some of the most popular titles. Players can access things like the Book of Dead and Reactoonz, which are some of the all-time classics.

Colombia is slowly establishing itself as one of the most important countries in South America for iGaming. Locals have access to a wide array of companies to choose from, and now this also includes Play’N Go.

Misiones in Argentina Introduced New Legislation Against Underage iGaming

One of Argentina’s provinces decided to take action against underage online gambling. One of the key measures in the legislation is related to gambling ads. The new law basically bans gambling ads that target minors, and this also includes campaigns from influencers, as well as characters or images that could appeal to children.

All operators working in this part of the world must make sure that they limit children’s exposure to gambling marketing. Furthermore, they must include different kinds of responsible gambling messages when advertising their services.

In addition, there will be a digital platform where people can report suspected breaches. Assuming this new method works as intended, there is a good chance we will see it in other parts of the country.

Tottenham Hotspur and Betano are Now in a 3-year Partnership

Betano got into the news once again, and this time, they have another big deal on their hands. The iGaming operator will be Tottenham’s official training-wear partner for the upcoming 2026/27 season. Outside of that, Betano’s logo will be across the stadium’s LED, big screens, and all of the training kit.

It’s safe to say that this partnership is one of the biggest deals for Betano in a while. Once the upcoming season is over and the next one begins, the partnership will change, and Betano will become the club’s official Europe & LATAM betting partner. Based on the news, this deal will be in place until 2029.

Tottenham Hotspur is one of the biggest football clubs in the world and has more than 600 million fans. An interesting fact is that it also has one of the fastest-growing audiences in the Premier League.

As for Betano, this is another big partnership under their belt as the iGaming behemoth continues to dominate its industry. As you know, Betano also sponsored the FIFA World Cup 2026, as well as many other teams and events from around the world.

A Former DraftKings Sports Trader Charged After His Involvement in a Basketball Betting Scheme

former drafkings trader charged with betting fraud

It seems like a former sports trader who worked at DraftKings is now facing felony charges in Nevada. According to the authorities, he was participating in a betting scheme that involved a basketball player. The prosecution reveals that the player underformed on purpose in 2025 so that both he and the trader could profit.

Samuel Silverman, a former DraftKings employee, has pleaded not guilty, which means we will have a full case. Based on ESPN’s reports, the employee was arrested in May this year in Las Vegas, and it became clear that he was involved in a scheme that resulted in $15,590 in winnings.

We will have to wait to see what happens in the case. If the authorities have enough evidence, it is a matter of time before he gets in trouble.
