Slovenia

Slovenia booked their slot at Euro 2024 by finishing second in qualifying Group H behind Denmark. They were ahead of Finland, Kazakhstan, Northern Ireland, and San Marino. Their stats when reaching the finals showed Slovenia racked up seven wins, one draw, and two defeats, which is the same as pool winners Denmark. Both teams ended on 22 points, four better than nearest rivals Finland, who occupied the bronze medal position. The Danes won the group on the head-to-head, and it couldn’t have been tighter.

Slovenia may have snuck into the finals as the runners-up. However, they know they came agonizingly close to getting their noses in front and causing an upset. Slovenia isn’t one of the early favourites to win this trophy, and many experts, including betting traders, believe they’re simply here to make up the numbers. But they are better than their odds suggest, and qualifying has proved this. They are good enough to hurt any opponent that takes them lightly.

Denmark

Denmark has already proven themselves more than a match for Slovenia and will feel they hold all the aces here. The Danes topped Euro 2024 qualifying Group H with their stats showing seven wins and one draw from 10 games, scoring 19 goals and conceding ten. Despite pipping Slovenia to the top spot in the qualifying group, the Danes scored fewer goals and conceded more. They must improve in Germany if they are to keep Slovenia at arm’s length and enjoy an extended stay in Germany.

Denmark is working hard on improving its leaky defence and recently caught the eye with two clean sheets in a couple of friendlies. They battled to an impressive 0-0 draw against Switzerland. After that, they followed with a rather more predictable 2-0 home win over the Faroe Islands. It’s all about building confidence at this stage as the manager looks for his strongest starting 11 and the best squad he can take to the Euros.

Serbia

Another team looking to throw their hat in the ring for a place in the knockout rounds this summer is Serbia. They arrive in Germany in Group C, and we see no reason why they can’t collect enough points to at least trouble the later rounds and qualify as pool winners or runners-up. That’s easier said than done. However, Serbia has the potential to be a dark horse in this pool, and no opponent will want to take them lightly.

Serbia made it this far thanks to a successful qualifying campaign. They finished best of the rest behind Hungary in Group G. They won half of their eight pool games, drawing two and losing the other pair. The Serbians pushed the Hungarians hard in qualifying and had plenty to offer at this level. They aren’t expected to win the group, with most pundits going against Serbia. However, they could sneak in as a runner-up, and that would suit fans nicely.

England

The Three Lions have never won the European Championships despite hosting finals in 1996 and 2021. They came close last year when losing to Italy at Wembley on penalties. Betting traders think they’ll go one better this year. Bookies are pricing England as the pre-competition favourites to end the drought and finally get their hands on the silverware. England has a squad bursting with talent and will arrive in Germany believing they are the team to beat.

This isn’t the first England team to head into a major international tournament with the backing of the bookies, only to fall flat on their faces, letting supporters and bettors down. Could Gareth Southgate’s squad do something their predecessors couldn’t and take the trophy back to Wembley? They topped Group C ahead of Italy with their qualifying stats showing six wins and two draws, making them one of only a few unbeaten sides on route to Euro 2024. There’s excitement in the air.
