UEFA Champions League Groups 2023/2024 Total Value by Teams

Every football fan knows that the UEFA Champions League is the world’s leading football competition for clubs. The best of the best gather each year to compete for the big reward. Needless to say, this attracts football fans from all over the world because they can see the world’s most popular and richest clubs in the world.

Speaking of value, Nostrabet.com revealed that teams in Group F of the 2023/24 Champions League are more than 2 times more valuable than those in Group H when it comes down to the value of their players. This doesn’t necessarily mean they are better, but their squad value is way higher. “These stats may come as a shock to some players, especially if you see the teams that are in each group. However, since Group A has teams like PSG, it probably does not come as a surprise,” said Veselin from NB.

Speaking of the different groups, you can see each group’s value and the teams that are there. With that said, let’s learn more information about each group and see which are the most expensive clubs in the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League.

UEFA Champions League most expensive groups

Group A – $2.09B

Group A of the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League consists of the following teams:

  • Manchester United
  • Galatasaray
  • Bayern Munich
  • Copenhagen

Even though all 4 teams here are well-known and have really good players, there is no arguing that two of them stand out. Manchester United and Bayern Munich are the two big favourites in Group A, as well as the two most expensive clubs here. In fact, their total squad value is almost 80% of the $2.09B number, which is really impressive.

According to some stats, Manchester United spent more than 110M GBP on transfers in the summer. The club got the chance to sign in the likes of Mason Mount, Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, and more.

Bayern Munich also spent a lot of money because the German club signed none other than Harry Kane for 100M EUR. Alongside the talented English Centre-Forward, Bayern also got Min-jae Kimn and Danial Peretz.

Group B – $1.69B

Group B of the Champions League also has several big names, including a club that missed out on last year’s competition:

  • Arsenal
  • Sevilla
  • Lens
  • PSV Eindhoven

It probably doesn’t come as a surprise that most of that $1.69B squad value is because of Arsenal. The Gunners were close to winning the English Premier League but missed out after a series of unsuccessful results. Nevertheless, this did not prevent the squad from spending a lot of money on new signings because it wants to try and win the trophy this season.

Following the end of the Summer Transfer window, Arsenal spent more than 200M EUR. The club signed Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber, alongside several other players.

Sevilla also has a fairly expensive squad and signed several new players. However, the club’s most expensive transfer was Loic Bade, and it was 12M EUR.

Group C – $1.89B

The third group of the 2023/2024 UCL is also very interesting, and it has the following squads:

  • Real Madrid
  • Napoli
  • Braga
  • Union Berlin

Although Union Berlin and Braga are clubs that people like watching, there is no arguing that almost all of the squads’ value here are made up of Real Madrid and Napoli. Los Blancos did not spend as much money as some think, but the squad got three big names to strengthen its positions. Real Madrid paid 103M EUR to Dortmund for Jude Bellingham, 20M EUR to Fenerbahce for Arda Guler, and 5M EUR to Rayo Vallecao for Fran Garcia.

Serie A’s champions also had to make a few transfers if they wanted to remain the favourites in Italy. Napoli signed several new players, such as Jasper Lindstrom and Giacomo Raspadori. The club seems strong right now, so most fans are interested in what will happen with it.

Group D – $1.47B

The fourth Group that we have the chance to watch in action consists of these clubs:

  • Benfica
  • Inter Milan
  • Real Sociedad
  • Red Bull Salzburg

It’s safe to say that this is probably one of the most intriguing groups at the UCL to follow because all teams here have the chance to win. However, since we’re talking about the value of squads, Inter Milan is the clear winner here. While it’s true the Italian club did not spend a lot of money, there are a few new interesting players. For example, the club signed Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich and Kristjan Asllani from Empoli.

Interestingly, Benfica also spent a lot of money on transfers this season and added value to its squad. The Portuguese team paid 25M EUR for Orkun Kokcu from Feyenoord and 20M EUR to Fiorentina for Arthur Cabral.

Group E – $1.05B

Interestingly, Group E has the least expensive squads in the 2023/2024 Champions League. Nevertheless, the matches are definitely worth following because they consist of the following names:

  • Celtic
  • Atletico Madrid
  • Lazio
  • Feyenoord

You do not need to be a football expert to know that Atletico Madrid is the team whose squad makes up most of the $1.05B Group squad value. Even though the Spanish team did not spend that much money, it got a few interesting players. Without a doubt, the biggest name is Antoine Griezmann from Barcelona. The French World Cup winner was a part of Atletico several years ago, but then he moved to Barcelona. It seems like the club missed him because it decided to get him back a few years later for 20M EUR.

Group F – $2.63B

After covering the least expensive group, it’s time to reveal the most expensive one. The squads here are valued at $2.63B, which is an insane amount of money.

  • Milan
  • Newcastle United
  • Paris Saint-Germain
  • Borussia Dortmund

Even though $2.63B might seem unreal, once you see PSG in the group, you start to understand why this is the case. Despite the fact that the French squad waved goodbye to a lot of its world-class players, it still has the most expensive player in the world – Mbappe. On top of that, the team spent more than 350M EUR on transfers this season by getting the likes of Ousmane Dembele for 50M and Randal Kolo Muani for 95M EUR.

Newcastle is also a team that deserves more attention, especially after the Saudis acquired it. This is the world’s richest club, so most people aren’t surprised it spent more than 150M EUR this season. Interestingly, Sandro Tonali’s 64M EUR transfer was the most expensive one, and the player came from Milan. The latter is one of the teams that Newcastle has to go against in Group F.

Group G – $1.71B

Even though this group has one of the world’s most expensive football clubs, it’s not the most expensive. Here are the teams you can find here:

  • Young Boys
  • Red Star Belgrade
  • RB Leipzig
  • Manchester City

It probably does not come as a surprise that Manchester City is on another level when compared to the rest. The English Premier League Champions won the treble last year, including the UEFA Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup. Consequently, they also have one of the most expensive squads at the tournament.

In terms of transfers, City spent almost 240M EUR, which is impressive. There are several intriguing signings, but the one that stands out is the 21-year-old Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig, whom City had to pay 90M EUR for. The team also got Matheus Nunes from Wolves for 62M EUR and Jeremy Doku from Stade Rennais for 60M EUR. Of course, we also have to add Meteo Kobacic from Chelsea for 29.1M EUR.

Group H – $1.30B

The second-least expensive Group at the 2023/2024 UEFA Champions League in terms of the value of the squads is Group H. Here, you can find the likes of:

  • Antwerp
  • Porto
  • Shakhtar Donetsk
  • Barcelona

Although all teams have good players, it does not come as a surprise that Barcelona is in a league of its own. With that said Barcelona did not make any significant transfers this year. In fact, the club only spent 3.4M EUR for Oriol Romeu from Girona. It seems like Barcelona is a fan of the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” quote, so it will have pretty much the same squad as in 2022/2023.
