According to Nostarbet.com, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur are 6 of England’s best and most expensive clubs. “At one point, almost all of these clubs were worth more than $1B. Manchester United’s value has always been higher than its competitors, but things have changed in the last couple of years”, said Kristiyan, Nostrabet’s football analyst.
The above-mentioned football clubs have fans worldwide, and many are curious to learn about their value in the last 11 years. So, it is time to go through everything and see what each club was worth before and what’s the situation now.
Team | Brand Value in 2022 |
---|---|
🥇 Manchester City | $1,539B |
🥈 Liverpool | $1,475B |
🥉 Manchester United | $1,459B |
Tottenham Hotspur | $1,012B |
Chelsea | $991M |

Manchester United
Football fans who take a look at different statistics regarding the most popular clubs in the world will always find Manchester United there. The Red Devils are undeniably the biggest name in England, especially in the last couple of years. So, don’t be surprised when you notice that Manchester United had the highest brand value until 2021.
Interestingly, Manchester United’s brand value was significantly higher than the rest over the years. In 2011, the club was worth 661M, which was more than double the rest on the list. This trend continued over the next three years, but there was a small decline in 2014. Fortunately, Manchester United bounced back and gained massive growth between 2014 and 2018.
In fact, the club’s peak brand value was in 2018, when it was estimated to cost more than $1.8B. Sadly, the Red Devil’s brand value dropped in 2019, 2020, and 2021. As of 2022, the brand is worth around $1.4B, which means it is third on the list.
Arsenal
Thierry Henry’s favorite club is also among England’s most prominent names in football. The club from London has a huge fan base in every corner of the globe, which means it has one of the most expensive brands on the list.
Despite the huge fan base, Arsenal’s inconsistent performance in the last 11 years affected the brand’s value. The Gunners were worth around $301M in 2011, which makes them third on the list. That said, the club’s value slowly increased each year and reached its peak in 2018. Arsenal was worth more than $1B during that time, but it was still behind everyone else except Tottenham.
2019, 2020, and 2021 haven’t been ideal for the club because things like the global pandemic had an effect on football all over the world. That said, it seems like Arsenal is on the right path because its brand value increased by $127M from 2021 to 2022 alone. In 2022, Arsenal’s worth around $919M, meaning it is the least expensive brand of all clubs in this article.
Chelsea
Most football fans know that the biggest change in Chelsea’s history was in 2003 when Roman Abramovich acquired the club. Unsurprisingly, this hugely impacted the brand’s popularity, so it has been growing ever since.
A quick look at Chelsea’s brand value between 2011 and 2017 shows a similar pattern to the other names on the list. The Blues were worth around $314M in 2011, but it reached $502M in 2014.
Interestingly, the club almost doubled its brand value in the next couple of years. The biggest leap was between 2016 and 2017, when Chelsea went from $776M to more than $1.2B in just one year. This shouldn’t be surprising because the club was very successful during that time.
Following the peak, Chelsea started losing its value in the next couple of years. As of 2021, the club reached $904M. The good news is that in 2022, Chelsea’s brand is worth around $991M, which means there are signs of improvement.
Manchester City
Like Chelsea, Manchester City also underwent a massive change after Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan acquired it. The deal took place in 2008, and unsurprisingly, the brand value has been going up ever since.
Interestingly, Manchester City’s value in 2011 was almost 2x less than the four other teams on the list and nearly 5x less than its rivals – the Red Devils. However, things changed in the next couple of years because City had one of the most impressive growths.
Thanks to the numerous transfers, good results, and impressive brand deals, City’s brand value went from 510M in 2014 to $800M in 2015. The club continued to rise in popularity and reached $1.4B in 2019. Even though the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed it down, the Citizens quickly recovered.
As of 2022, Manchester City has the most expensive brand in the English Premier League because it is valued at $1.5B. This is the first time City has a higher value than Manchester United.
Liverpool
There is no arguing that Liverpool is one of England’s most legendary teams. Aside from its success, the club is known for having some of the most loyal fans in the world. That’s one of the reasons why Liverpool’s brand value increased every year between 2011 and 2020.
Although it was behind Arsenal, Chelsea, and Man Utd in 2011, Liverpool’s consistent results allowed the team to keep up with the big 3 in England at the time. The Reds increased their brand’s value each year, but the most significant difference was between 2017 and 2018. Before that, Liverpool usually had around a $100M increase per year, but in 2017, the brand gained approximately $300M and reached $1.2B.
Liverpool’s brand value was around $1.39B in 2020, but COVID-19 decreased it to around $1.1B in 2021. Fortunately, the club’s financial decisions allowed them to bounce back and reach an all-time high in 2022. Today, Liverpool is the 2nd most expensive football brand in England, with a value of $1.47B.
Tottenham Hotspur
Some football fans may think Tottenham Hotspur should not be on the list. However, the Spurs have proven that they are among the best in England, and their brand value backs it up.
Interestingly, Tottenham Hotspur had the lowest brand value of all of the names on the list until late 2019. Although the club was worth almost as Manchester City in 2011, it lost some of its value in 2013 when it reached $219М. Fortunately, things changed in the next couple of years.
Slowly but steadily, Tottenham Hotspur caught up to the big five. The club’s brand value increased yearly, but the most impressive jump was between 2016 and 2017. During that time, the Spurs went from $441M to 696M.
Interestingly, Tottenham is the least-affected brand by the Global Pandemic because it lost just $20M between 2020 and 2021. In 2022, the brand value of the Spurs is $1B, which makes them more expensive than the other two clubs from London (Arsenal and Chelsea).
