The Impact of AI in iGaming

The online gambling industry consists of numerous bookmakers and casinos accepting players worldwide. These sites employ various people who focus on specific aspects of operation. Many of them have a crucial role in today’s industry, but the job market is changing rapidly, and it will be different in a few years.

Speaking of jobs and iGaming, we at Nostrabet.com wanted to share a few predictions and our in-depth analysis about the way AI will reshape jobs in the iGaming industry. We already revealed some of the highest-paying jobs in the business, but the way things are going, some won’t be in this category. Keep reading to see what we believe could happen.

The Jobs That Are at Risk (General)

How will AI reshape jobs in the igaming industry in the next years

Recent research from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has presented intriguing data. The stats focus on the occupations with the most significant decline in employment in the U.S. between 2024 and 2034.

  • First on the chart is Cashiers, and the stats reveal that there will be around 313,600 fewer jobs in this field over the next 9 years. This may not come as a surprise because of the automations in this field, especially when it comes to AI.
  • General office clerks are second with 117,800 jobs, followed by customer support representatives with 153,700. An interesting fact about the latter is that many people in different parts of the world are already losing their jobs because of automated systems. Everyone who’s been using an iGaming site lately has noticed that the live chats will have an “AI agent”.
  • Bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks are next with 94,300, followed by fast food cooks with 90,300.
  • After that, we have the first-line supervisors of retail sales, who work with 72,300; shipping/receiving and inventory clerks, who have 66,300; and tellers, who have 44,900.

Again, this data is based on estimates and how things are changing in the respective industries. We tend to agree with everything here because some of these industries are already changing.

The Risky Jobs in the iGaming Sector

In addition to the jobs mentioned above, many people employed in the iGaming industry are also at risk of losing their livelihoods. Some jobs are definitely in a worse state than others, so let’s learn more about them.

Customer Support & Service

As mentioned, customer support representatives are among the positions that will see the biggest changes in the next couple of years. In the gambling sector, bookies and casinos have started using AI chatbots. Most also have a real customer support department, but it only consists of a few people.

Advanced AI chatbots can handle most live chat and email interactions. Call center operators even use AI and advanced IVR systems, reducing the need for large teams of phone agents.

Marketing and Content Creation

The next departments where AI will reshape the job market in the iGaming sector are marketing and content creation. This is trickier and will most likely take a bit more time, especially among some of the more established operators.

For starters, copywriters who focus on ads, game descriptions, and promotions will see a big hit. Many AI text generators produce persuasive content at scale, and while it may not be that good now, this will change in the near future.

SEO specialists, at least those at the basic level, are also at risk of losing their jobs. Many automated SEO tools can do a good job and generate strategies faster.

Lastly, we have the social media managers. This position is different from the rest, and there are not that many AI implementations yet, but this will change soon.

Design & Creative

Graphic designs are essential for the iGaming industry because they make websites look appealing. While good designers will always have a job, those at the basic levels will easily be replaced by advanced AI design tools. In fact, some of the best online designers are already using those tools in their daily lives.

Alongside designers, video editors are also at risk. Not all online bookmakers and casinos use video editors, but many that do can replace that person with automated video creation tools.

Operations & Compliance

Licensed gambling websites wishing to operate in most regions need to make sure that the people using their platforms meet certain criteria. To do that, they have a KYC process in place that demands people send specific documents. There are separate departments whose job is to reveal those documents and we believe they will go “extinct” in the near future.

If you analyse some of the top sites even today, you will find loads of AI-driven identity verification software that reduces the need for manual checks. There are also automated monitoring systems that can more effectively detect suspicious behaviour.

The same is true for the payment processing clerks. Pretty much all sites have automated payment gateways and reconciliation tools.

Game Development & Testing

Online casinos have become some of the most popular iGaming platforms in the world, and for good reason. Many provide top-tier casino games with different bonuses and features that attract people from around the world. While these games will always need experienced developers for their final touches, the same can’t be said about junior developers.

We assume that junior developers are at high risk of losing their jobs. Thanks to the many AI-assisted game engines, companies will no longer need to employ these devs and can focus on those with more experience.

The same applies to game testers (QAs). Their job is to detect bugs and test different titles, which are processes that can be automated.

Staying Competitive in iGaming’s AI Era

We think it’s clear that AI will reshape the iGaming industry in the next couple of years. Some positions are more at risk than others, but this does not mean people have to lose their jobs. There are different steps that everyone can take to better prepare for the upcoming change and stay competitive:

  • Embrace AI, Don’t Resist it – As cliché as it sounds, you must learn how to use AI to your advantage. Once you master it, you will see a massive productivity boost.
  • Learn Skills that Can’t Be Automated – Being creative, learning how to negotiate and being a leader are skills that are hard to automate. Focusing on these things will ensure you will be needed.
  • Increase Your Tech Knowledge – Being multi-functional is essential in today’s job market. No matter your position, learning new tech skills can help you a lot in the long learn. Things like basic coding and AI-promoting engineering are always handy.
  • Build Cross-Disciplinary Skills – This is probably one of the most important points in this heading. Knowing how to do multiple things on a decent level makes you a key figure in any business. These hybrid positions are becoming increasingly popular in today’s industry.
  • Focus on Creativity and Brand Diversity – While AI can do a lot of stuff, it can’t build unique brands yet. Professions that bring originality to a given company will be key to its future success.
  • Strengthen your Networking and Human Relationships – Building relationships with regulators, affiliate partners, colleagues, and others in the iGaming industry is invaluable. These relationships can’t be automated and will ensure you stay visible and connected in the industry.
  • Shift to a Supervisory Role – Instead of doing repetitive tasks, you can focus on overseeing, guiding, and improving AI-driven processes.

Which Will be the Most In-Demand Jobs of the Next Decade

Predicting the future is not easy, but a recent study from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics provided intriguing statistics. Based on the predictions for the 2024-2034 range, home health and personal care aides will be most in demand. The stats show there will be close to 739,800 positions in this department.

Software developers are next with 267,700 positions. Number 3 on the list is for stockers and order fillers with 235,000, followed by fast food and counter workers with 233,200. After that, we have restaurant cooks with 217,000, registered nurses with 166,100, and general and operations managers with 164,000. The last position is for medical and health service managers with 142,900.

What About iGaming?

Despite AI and all the automations going on, the iGaming industry will also need a lot of new people. Here are some of the sectors where we believe bookies and casinos will need help:

  • Security and Fraud Prevention Experts – Yes, this is one of the departments that will be heavily automated. However, it’s also extremely important for all sites, so they will need experts to supervise the process.
  • Legal Advisors – All gambling companies want to operate in different countries and attract more customers. Gambling legislation is always complex and tricky, so sites will need legal advisors to help them navigate the process.
  • New Generation Game Designers – Instead of creating everything from scratch, designers will rely on AIU tools for ideas, prototypes, and balancing. They will be able to create new and more engaging games in a fraction of the time.
  • AI Data Curator – These people will help prepare gaming datasets and feed them into AI systems.

We are sure there will be even more roles within the next 10 years that do not even exist today. Online gambling develops incredibly fast and will need fresh ideas.

Closing Thoughts

Whether we like it or not, the job market will undergo one of the biggest changes since the Industrial Revolution. The new tech and AI, in particular, are improving every day, so people need to adapt to survive. Some positions will be a lot more affected than others, but those who can adapt to the new reality will thrive.

In terms of iGaming, the sites that offer casino and sports betting services will keep improving. They need to meet clients’ expectations and since the latter want more and more, sites will continue to innovate. This means that we could see a lot more opportunities in this sector.
