The iGaming industry in New Jersey Grew Has a 6% Growth from December 2024
The online gambling business in the US is booming, and New Jersey is among the states that lead the charts. According to the most recent stats, the total gambling revenue in the state reached $553.9M in January 2025, which is 6% more than the one in December. Surprisingly, this result is almost 1% lower than it was in January last year.
Among the reasons gambling revenue is lower than before is the decline in sports betting. It seems like fewer people are interested in betting on sports and choose iGaming instead. The numbers for January reveal that iGaming revenue is $221.6M, which is almost 21% more than it was last year.
The numbers regarding the decline in sports betting are interesting because it seems like revenue dropped by 28.4%. Despite the lower number in January ($122.2M), it is almost two times higher than in December. Out of these $122.2M, $118.5M came from online sportsbooks, whereas the rest came from retail operators.
The Gambling revenue in the US reaches $71.92B in 2024
Considering the legal changes and the growing popularity of iGaming and sports betting in the US, people were eager to see the American Gaming Association reports for Q4 and FY 2024. As expected, the industry continues to grow, and the annual gaming revenue figure has reached $71.92B. This is around 7.5% more than the 2023 result.
Aside from the FY 2024 stats, the Q4 revenue itself also broke a record. The stats indicate that the revenue reached $18.62B, which is an all-time high so far.
If we dive deep into the report, we will see that the Q4 revenue mainly comes from casinos. The number there is $12.59B, which is 4x more than the sports betting GGR, which reached $3.66B. Despite the smaller amount, sports betting marked a 7.3% increase compared to Q4 in 2023.
What’s interesting is that the online gambling revenue received the most year-on-year growth. Even though the number is “only” $2.38B, there is a 33.1% increase when you compare it to the same period last year. In other words, online gambling continues to become more popular among Americans.
Sweden’s Government will review the Gambling Act
As one of Europe’s largest gambling markets, Sweden is among the countries where locals can use different gambling websites. Although most people use licensed operators, the reality is that there are many unlicensed sites operating in the country. It seems like this is due to a legal loophole that was discovered by the Swedish Trade Associations for Online Gambling.
According to the association, the loophole allows unlicensed sites to operate in Sweden. These companies can legally accept players from the country as long as the site itself is not in Swedish, and it does not use the local currency. Needless to say, many players in Sweden have no problems using sites in English and wagering in EUR instead of the local currency.
Following the discovery, the Swedish Government decided to review the Gambling Act in the country. A state investigator was appointed to explore the issue and come up with a potential solution.
